Weekly Family Devotion
Let the Light shine in your life.
Have you ever tried to walk outside at night with no light? How did it feel? I know when I was younger I always had to have a flashlight with me when I went outside at night. One reason was that I knew where I was going and could walk on the right path. The second, I used to be scared of the dark so when I had a light with me it helped me feel less scared. In the Bible Jesus talks about darkness and light. Look up John 8:12 in your Bible. In that verse Jesus says that he is the light of the world. When you follow him you will never be in darkness but have light. Now that does not mean that you literally will never be in the dark. When Jesus is talking about darkness he is talking about the bad things in the world. Even though we still will face some that Jesus will be with us and will light up the darkness. The light will show us the way to go. Jesus is that light. Jesus is always with us and shining his light for our path. Stop and think about what are some things that God gives us to help us follow Jesus?
When I think of this I think of the older people in my life whether they are parents, mentors, pastors, friends, or past teachers. These people helped guide me in my faith and in following Jesus. Another thing that God gives to us is the Bible. Which is one way we can learn about God and from some of the earliest Christians. Another thing I can think of is prayer. When we pray we are talking to God even though some of us might not hear God. God always answers. What did you think of? Were there any differences from what I said? All of these ways point to Jesus who is the light of the world. When we are learning and listening we are walking in his light and are not alone.
